Will County, Illinois is strategically located just 35 miles southwest of Chicago's Loop. Will County currently consists of an area of 846 square miles, is the 13th largest county in Illinois in terms of land area and is the 2nd largest in land area in the 6-county Chicago area, with Cook County being first. Will County has 24 Townships and 35 Municipalities.
Plainfield is rapidly growing. Will Countys oldest community continues to meet the challenges of todays changing needs for businesses and residents. This thriving, still quaint, "prairie town" is a focal point of exciting growth and development. A stroll through town quickly shows even the casual observer signs of this renaissance. The Plainfield Post Office has recently completed a new modern facility on the west side of the DuPage River. There are over 20 restaurants in Plainfield and a new bowling alley.
The community is very proud of its more than 12 denominational and two non-denominational churches. It has two weekly newspapers as well as an area daily paper. There are 31 clubs and organizations fulfilling many different interests. Plainfield prides itself on maintaining its "prairie town" atmosphere while expanding its employment and residential opportunities. More and more young couples with children are moving into the area; many people who were raised in Plainfield are returning to raise their children here.
